Brief Summary
Professor Jung Chan Lee conducts research in biomedical engineering, biomechanics, artificial organs, medical device design, and regulatory science. With a background in mechanical engineering and biomedical engineering, his work aims to address unmet clinical needs through engineering principles and medical device development methodologies, with a strong emphasis on translational research. His major research areas include medical devices, artificial intelligence, artificial organs, surgical robotics, hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, and biomechanics. He has continuously pursued research on clinically applicable and domestically developed medical technologies, including CRRT systems for critically ill patients, hemodialyzers, and portable and home-based dialysis systems.
Based on biomechanical analysis and precision mechanical design, he also develops models that reproduce the physical properties of human tissues and organs and applies them to diagnostic, therapeutic, and educational medical devices. More recently, his research has expanded into medical robotics and AI-based medical devices. Representative examples include robotic CPR systems designed to improve the accuracy and continuity of chest compressions, ultrasound- and biosignal-feedback-based automation technologies, and perception and control technologies for surgical assistance and autonomous surgical robots.
In addition, Professor Lee conducts research on AI-based medical devices using medical images, biosignals, and sensor data, as well as regulatory science related to the validation, quality management, and approval strategies of software as a medical device. His research is characterized by a full-cycle approach to medical device development, extending beyond simple prototyping to include engineering design, performance evaluation, preclinical and clinical validation, regulatory strategy, and commercialization. Ultimately, his work aims to improve patient safety, reduce the burden on healthcare p
